I am increasingly interested in aesthetics, as defined by myself. In particular, I have become more aware of the connection of simplicity and nuance in my operative definition of aesthetics. I have been exploring how line operates within this relationship. I am drawn to the literality and simplicity of a line created by the use of a straight-edge. I am equally drawn to the variety of line that can be created by using a different color, width, repetition, or direction of line. The nuance of my aesthetic definition is thus created by the unrestrained linear variety that is still constrained by the simplicity of a straight line.

Initially, I set out to define or reference something of importance, such as a statement of cultural inspiration/knowledge, interpersonal relationships, and/or the idea of beauty. During the process of my physically drawing the lines, I learn more about how they in themselves are able to define the very things I am concerned with and attempting to describe. I embrace how the process redefines, enhances, and even dictates my description and worth of aesthetic value. The process is an invaluable tool in clarifying my own statement.

With this recent work, I am not trying to make a concrete explanation of what my aesthetics are or what is its ultimate worth to my art practice. Rather, I am merely describing the idea of my aesthetics in limited definite terms and many subjective and intuitive terms.
